Meet the Fellows

Deyana Orozco

This is some text inside of a div block.

Deyana Orozco, born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, was just two years old when her parents made the life-changing decision to immigrate to San Francisco California. Deyana attended elementary and high school in the city, later enrolling in Dominican University. After one year she realized she could unfortunately not continue due to financial constraints, leaving her with no choice but to commit herself to working full time at Bank of America.

After three years of working at Bank of America, Deyana decided she was unfulfilled by her corporate work and decided to pursue her education. Despite many challenges attending community college while also waitressing, Deyana’s determination outweighed the negatives and is now studying sociology with a focus in mental health at San Francisco State University.  Deyana plans on graduating from SFSU in Spring 2018 and aspires to become a case manager in her professional career.

To help her gain professional experience, Diana has the pleasure of being placed at Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (APILO) through the DreamSF Fellowship. At APILO, Deyana is assisting an immigration attorney and working along side a case manager. In-between her fellowship, work and school, Deyana enjoys spending as much time as she can with her family and friends. She also loves outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, jet skiing and camping. Deyana looks forward to traveling outside the United States in the near future.
