Danna was born in Quintana Roo, Mexico, and raised in San Rafael, California. Her experience as a first-generation college graduate residing in a predominantly immigrant community shaped her education and career goals.
Danna graduated from San Francisco State University with a double major in Sociology and Race and Resistance Studies. At SFSU, Danna focused on researching undocumented student needs and, in her community, continues to support immigrants through Know Your Rights Trainings, distribution of “red cards”, and citizenship test support. As someone who is part of the restaurant labor force, Danna is passionate about improving the wages and labor conditions of immigrant workers in this sector through continuous advocacy and labor organizing.
Her firsthand experience receiving support from non-profits organizations in her community also shaped her commitment to uplifting first-generation scholars and improving conditions for undocumented students in higher education.
As a fellow, Danna was placed at AIDS Legal Referral Panel, where she assists with immigration-related cases for the AIDS/HIV positive community in San Francisco.
When Danna is not in the community, she is reading, playing video games, and giving belly rubs to her cat, Mimi. She believes in the power of a radical imagination to shape and completely dismantle oppressive systems.
