Cecilia

Cecilia Subias was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of two, she, her older sister, and her mother migrated to the United States to reunite with her father. Her parents moved to the north in search of opportunity and to provide their daughters with a better life and future. Cecilia was raised in Concord, California, where she grew up in a predominantly low-income Latino neighborhood and witnessed firsthand the inequity low-income families face.

‍

When Cecilia graduated from high school, she enrolled in community college, where she earned her AA-T in Communication Studies. She then continued her education at San Francisco State University, completing her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts. During her two years at San Francisco State, she learned the importance of community and advocacy.

‍

After college, Cecilia felt uncertain about the next steps in her professional journey. She had studied communications with the hope of pursuing a career in marketing, but her experience at San Francisco State piqued her interest in working closely with her community and giving back. She found herself unsure of what direction to take, until she discovered the DreamSF Fellowship.

‍

For the DreamSF Fellowship, Cecilia is placed at Mission Graduates. There, she will support their Parent Partner Program, helping parents with one-on-one technology mentorship. She will also support the Marketing and Communications department with social media campaigns.

‍

In her free time, you can find Cecilia doing yoga, a word search puzzle, or binge-watching a TV show. And when she’s not watching TV, you can find her at the movie theaters; her favorite movie genres are rom-coms and horror.
