Andrea was born in Toluca, Mexico where she spent the first five years of her life. She then moved to the Bay Area, in order to reunite with her family. Andrea graduated from high school in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, a period marked by uncertainty. Despite the challenges, her determination to pursue higher education remained stronger than any setback. She attended Foothill College, where she earned an associate degree in Communication Studies before transferring to San Jose State University. She graduated in December of 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Advertising.
During her time in college, Andrea learned that effective communication doesn't just mean sharing information, but it requires understanding the audience and tailoring messages to meet diverse needs. This understanding was further shaped by her lived experiences, revealing that resources are not always accessible to people that need them most. As a result, she believes that meaningful communication starts with awareness, empathy and intentionality.
Andrea hopes to further use this understanding and apply these values through her DreamSF Fellowship host organization, WE RISE SF, Labor Center for Immigrant Justice. There, she will work alongside their team supporting immigrant workers and the broader community.
Growing up in the Bay Area, Andrea developed a deep appreciation for community and spending time with her loved ones. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, with her most recent watch being The Odyssey.
