Abi is a student at the University of California Berkeley pursuing a degree in political science and media studies. In his teens, and six years after the passing of his father, he relocated to the San Gabriel Valley, with the support of his uncle. Abi remains profoundly grateful for that lifeline, despite life still being filled with challenges.
Abi loves to humanize people through storytelling. His love for storytelling led him to pursue journalism and a legal career. Abi was a student journalist for his community college newspaper. Through his reporting, Abi covered topics on marginalized groups like the queer and undocumented community. Abi believes being an attorney is very much about story telling. More than just the prestige of the profession, it is about advocating people and righting the wrongs that have been done to people by telling their stories in the court of law.
As a DreamSF Fellow, Abi is placed at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area where he will contribute to the immigration justice legal team. This opportunity aligns with Abi’s goal of supporting immigrant communities whose stories and lived experiences are often overshadowed by partisan and sensational headlines.
Abi loves running and listening to songs from some of favourite artists such as Adele and Sam Smith. He also has a fun personal project: to read a historical fiction novel about every country on the world map.
