Meet the Fellows

Alex Allam

Alex was born in Bulacan, Philippines and came to the United States at the age of 16. He considers Los Angeles his home. He graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in Political Science with concentrations in International Relations and American Politics. He is currently a third-year J.D. Candidate at University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he focuses on Business Law and Government Law. 


Alex aspires to establish his own private equity and investment management firm that will specialize in training and employing undocumented immigrants, and in providing financial services to marginalized communities. 


In pursuit of this goal, Alex had worked for a year with California Senate Majority Leader and former Speaker of the California State Assembly, Robert Hertzberg, as a Legislative and Research Intern. He also worked for Equality California as a UCLA Labor Center Fellow, where he worked and advocated for both LGBTQ and undocumented communities. Alex was also a Trader in Securities, mostly with currency and index futures. While in law school, Alex worked at Legal Aid at Work as a Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Counselor in the Summer 2020. He returned to the same firm in Summer 2021 as a Gender Equity and LGBTQ Rights Law Clerk, and as a fellow for California Employment Lawyers Association and Foundation for Advocacy, Inclusion and Resources, where he helped represent transgender and non-binary clients who have experienced discrimination and harassment in the workplace. In the Fall of 2021, Alex will also be working for City Supervisor Matt Haney’s Office as a Legal Extern/Legislative Aide. 


Alex entered law school while still on chemotherapy for Leukemia and is currently in remission. 


As a DreamSF Fellow, Alex will be working with Immigrant Rising as part of their Legal Services Team, where he will be providing informational immigration intake memos and extending support to other community outreach programs. 


In his free time, Alex does abstract paintings and his works are memorialized in his Instagram account: @abstrax.esq. His interests include politics, economics, finance, public policy, fashion, and culinary arts.
