As a DreamSF Fellow, Maria is currently working with the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), an organization created to address the needs of Central Americans regarding their health, wellness, and serving as a center for family support. At CARECEN, Maria will be exposed to the various factors of immigration law and gain experience with individuals who need assistance and consultations regarding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), U-Visas, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), Naturalization and Citizenship, and motions to reopen and reconsider cases. As she continues to serve various clients, including low-income immigrants, Maria’s exposure to cases for those of different backgrounds have resulted in her increased communication skills and have furthered her involvement in group collaborations.
