Pedro

Pedro immigrated with his family to the Bay Area back in 2019, where he continues to live today. He is a proud gay man and proudly a first-generation immigrant from Brazil. In his home country, he often faced discrimination for his identity. However, here in San Francisco, he found a community that embraced him. One that celebrates his existence, allowing him to thrive as never before.

Pedro sees his community as the foundation for his identity and goals. Each one within this community has had a distinct and profound impact on his life. Surrounded by his family, the Brazilian and queer community, professors and co-workers, he found the support, the sense of belonging, the resilience, and the broader vision needed to keep going. In his future, he hopes to greatly contribute to community building around the world. Pedro believes that the erosion of communities worldwide has allowed policies of death to prevail, and only those who like him are nurtured by strong communities are able to identify and support policies of life.

Because of his strong belief in his future, Pedro is aligning his current efforts with his long-term goals. For the last few years, he has been pursuing a degree in communications to help build stronger and more connected communities. He also expresses his heritage and his community spirit through dance. This artistic outlet not only connects him to his Brazilian roots, but also to other queer Latino people around him.

Pedro is placed at Excelsior Works! for the DreamSF Fellowship, where he helps provide workforce development for San Francisco residents in District 11, a service much needed to strengthen our local community.
