Gabriela

Gaby was born and raised in the metropolitan area of San Salvador, El Salvador. Growing up, she would visit her grandparents and extended family in rural Chalatenango. These weekend trips allowed her to appreciate the beauty of natural landscapes, traditional homemade food –including the smell of warm ground coffee– but most importantly, the unconditional support of her family and community.

Throughout her childhood and early teenage years, Gaby was very dedicated to her education, inspiring her to unlock her creative and problem solving abilities. When the time arrived, she filled her backpack with enthusiasm to continue her education in the U.S. Despite the initial language barrier and cultural challenges, she never let them stop her from pursuing her academic and professional dreams.

In 2024, Gaby graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. During her time in college, she was very involved in competition clubs. As a Design Build team lead and execute team member for Cal Construction club, she learned to appreciate collaborative working environments. Through this experience, she also discovered her interest in approaching projects from a human-centered design perspective. She’s planning on attending graduate school to obtain a masters of architecture.

This year, Gaby is grateful to become part of Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) as a DreamSF Fellow, where she will be supporting their long-standing mission of empowering immigrant women through community and social justice advocacy. She will collaborate with the Data and Reporting team to improve documentation and access to event outreach data and external resources. In addition, she will directly support staff and membership through client intakes and event planning.

Gaby enjoys spending quality time with her friends, exploring new places, listening to her curated playlists, and making her own matcha lattes. She has recently incorporated running as part of her routine, which inspired her to run the San Francisco Half Marathon.
