Allison

Allison Miranda was born in El Salvador and immigrated to San Francisco at the age of two. Having grown up in the city, she proudly considers herself a San Francisco native. Allison is a recent graduate of San Francisco State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Public Health. Growing up low-income, she experienced the challenges her family and community faced accessing quality healthcare and nutrition. Motivated by these experiences, Allison plans to return to San Francisco State University to pursue a Masters of Public Health.

This background has inspired her to help guide San Franciscans in the public sector. Previously, she dedicated her time as a family navigator at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where she served as a liaison between families, medical providers, and community-based organizers. She also interned at Catholic Charities OMI (Oceanview/Merced/Ingleside) Senior Center, where she assisted seniors and disabled adults by organizing activities, and providing nutrition services to promote their independence and prevent isolation. Allison hopes to explore a career in public health research and advocacy.

As a Dream SF Fellow placed at Accion Latina, Allison hopes to explore the intersection between public health, art, healing, and community. She will assist with event planning, gallery walkthroughs, and free bilingual outdoor art strolls throughout the Mission District in San Francisco.

Allison considers herself to have two left feet, but that doesn’t stop her from dancing or singing karaoke with her mom on the weekends. Allison values quality time with her family, whether sharing a meal or having meaningful conversations with her loved ones.

Hi, my name is Allison Miranda, and my pronouns are she/her. I was born in El Salvador and immigrated to San Francisco at the age of two. Having grown up in the city, I proudly consider myself a San Francisco native. I am a recent graduate of San Francisco State University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Public Health. I consider myself to have two left feet, but that doesn’t stop me from dancing or singing karaoke with my mom on the weekends. I value quality time with my family, whether sharing a meal or having meaningful conversations with my loved ones. Growing up low-income, I experienced the challenges of accessing quality healthcare and nutrition. Motivated by these experiences, I would like to pursue a path that allows me to advocate for low-income communities by improving access to quality healthcare. I want to be part of the change that ensures everyone, regardless of their background, has the resources and support they need to live a healthy life. Academically, I want to strengthen my writing and critical thinking skills so I can better advocate for issues I care about. Personally, I aim to build more confidence in speaking up and sharing my perspective, even when it feels uncomfortable.
