Meet the Fellows

Juan Tandez

This is some text inside of a div block.

Juan Armando Tandez was born in the Philippines. He migrated to the U.S. with his family at 3, growing up in Las Vegas, NV before moving to the Bay Area, CA in 2011. Along with attending San Francisco State University, Juan also spends much of his time volunteering with several community organizing groups throughout the Bay Area.

Through perseverance and hard work, Juan graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor of arts in Broadcast Electronic Communication Arts. He hopes to leverage his degree in order to uplift the immigrant community. Juan is well aware of the lack of representation of the immigrant community in pop culture and the media which he consumes. His dream is for stories like his to be told, as well as giving a voice to other marginalized communities.

As a DreamSF Fellow, Juan is placed with the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area. He is supporting the communications team through social media marketing, highlighting client stories, and optimizing the IIBA website.

In his free time, Juan loves to fish and spend time with friends. He also enjoys film, music, and many other kinds of art. In the future he hopes to travel the world, starting with his home country of the Philippines.
