Headshot of Lediy

Lediy

Lediy was born and raised in San Antonio Aguas Calientes, Sacatepequez, Guatemala. At 15, she immigrated to the U.S. alongside her father and brother. The hardships and injustices that Lediy experienced as an immigrant made her realize that she wanted to become more than society expected of her. Driven by her desire of helping her community, Lediy decided to pursue higher education and learned to advocate for herself so that she could then advocate for those around her.

After having worked in retail stores and cleaning restaurants, Lediy is majoring in Economics at College of Marin, aspiring to transfer to University of California, Berkeley. She discovered her passion for law at a very young age. Now, she works every day so she can attend law school in the near future. Lediy knows that there is a need for legal advocacy within the immigrant community, and is committed to fighting for her community’s rights.

As a DreamSF Fellow, Lediy was placed at WeRiseSF, an organization assisting union immigrant workers and their families with immigration legal services, assessments, and community referrals. Lediy will work on legal intakes, completing immigration forms, and will be exposed to labor disputes and resolutions.

Lediy dedicates a lot of time and energy to her goals and aspirations, but in her free time, she enjoys hiking, trying new foods, and watching thriller movies. She also likes painting because it is a way for her to express the feelings that sometimes words cannot. For her, it is very important to also make some time for herself and enjoy the beauty of every new day. She believes that at the end of the day, it is not possible to help others without first helping oneself.
